Salt-N-Pepa
"Salt-N-Pepa
is the most successful and significant female rap act ever! Salt
(Cheryl James), Pepa (Sandi Denton) and DJ Spinderella (Dee Dee
Roper) have consistently, over the course of 10 years, reigned
as the only female rap act to be repeatedly certified Platinum.
Salt-N-Pepa
began working toward this moment in 1986, when they first made
some noise with their hit single "Showstoppa", an estrogen
stoked retort to Doug E. Fresh's "The Show". "Showstoppa"'s
success led to Salt-N-Pepa signing to a small indie label, Next
Plateau, and recording their 1986 debut album Hot, Cool Vicious."
That's where Playback.net came in, in 1986 with Al
Nisa Showtime to promote the band, pictured with Stacy Poulos/Producer
Playback.net, pushing their popularity. "The album would
go platinum and contained the Hit "Push It", which
reached the number one spot on the R and rap charts and sold
over a million copies in the US and the UK. In 1987, "Push
It" garnered Salt-N-Pepa their first Grammy nomination for
best rap performance." We play a small but necessary part of everyone's
big picture. Congratulations on your huge success!
